Understanding Your Billing Charges
We understand that medical bills can be overwhelming, and we are here to help you navigate them
What You Need to Know About Your Bill
Here are the important facts that you need to know about your billing
About Separate Billing
ER Consulting Inc. operates as an independent doctor’s practice and bills patients directly for doctor services rendered. This billing is separate from hospital admission fees, emergency unit facility fees, nursing fees, or charges from medical specialists and allied healthcare providers.
About Unit Consultations
Consultations are essential for:
- Reaching a differential diagnosis and initiating a treatment plan
- Requesting special investigations such as radiology or pathology services
- Referrals to medical specialists, hospital admissions, or other medical facilities as needed
These consultations are continually monitored to ensure adherence to current clinical best practices.
About Medical Aid Claims
ER Consulting Inc. submits claims to medical aid schemes on behalf of patients, however, the patient or guarantor remains responsible for the account until it is settled in full
About Medical Aid Shortfalls
Patients are liable for any non-payments or shortfalls not covered by their medical aid for services rendered
About Immediate Payment
Patients without a valid medical aid card and identification are required to settle their account at the time of consultation. The patient or guarantor is personally responsible for the fees charged
Billing
After your emergency visit, you might get separate bills from different healthcare providers such as:
- Hospital services: This includes a facility fee (for using the emergency unit), as well as medical supplies and equipment.
- Emergency doctor services: Includes the ER Consulting emergency doctor’s consultation, any procedures performed, and medical devices such as splints or braces, available at ER Consulting practices that offer orthotics.
- Specialist doctor services: If you’re referred to a specialist for X-rays, lab work, or other procedures, their consultation and treatment will be billed separately.
Hospitals usually charge a facility fee on top of the doctor’s fees.
